The German Language

A video that shows how harsh and even angry the German language can sound compared to other languages: French, English, Italian and Spanish.  Although, obviously, it's more how the man is saying the words rather the German language itself.

Two songs by the band Joy División who were a post punk band from Manchester in England.  'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and 'Atmosphere' were both singles from 1980 and can be found on the compilation album 'Substance' (1988).

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are an Australian alternative rock band from Melbourne.  This song is from their eleventh studio album 'No More Shall We Part' (2001).

Why Aye Man - Mark Knoplfer

'Why Aye Man' is a song by British singer-songwriter Mark Knoplfer.  The words 'why aye man' mean 'hello' or 'yes' and are used by people from Newcastle (also known as Geordies) which is in the North East of England.  The song is from his album 'The Ragpickers Dream' (2002). 

The song was also used in the third series of the British comedy drama series 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' about a group of British builders who have to find work abroad because there are no jobs in Britain.  If you really want to test out your English check out the series on YouTube. The Newcastle accent is one of the most difficult to understand.

Two songs by Mazzy Star:  'Fade Into You,'which is their most famous song and  'Into Dust' both of which are from the album 'So Tonight That I Might See' (1993).  Mazzy Star are an American alternative rock band from Santa Monica, California.  They are about to release their fourth studio album 'Seasons of Your Day' in September of this year.

Need to Believe - Gotthard

Gotthard are a Swiss heavy metal band from Lugano.  'Need to Believe' was released in 2009 from the album of the same name.  Sadly, Steve Lee, who was the lead singer, died in a crash whilst on a motorcycle holiday in the USA in 2010.  This song was suggested by Amanda in A6 who says Gotthard are one of her favourite rock bands and this song is their 'most gorgeous.'  She also misses Steve Lee.

Chad Kroeger is a Canadian singer-songwriter best known as the lead singer of Nickelback.  This song, recorded in 2002, was featured in the soundtrack to the film 'Spider-Man.'   This song was suggested by Amanda in A6.

More Than Words - Extreme

Extreme are an American rock band formed in Malden, Massachusettes.  'More Than Words' was their biggest hit and was released in 1991.  The song is about showing someone you love them rather than simply saying 'I love you.'  This song was suggested by Amanda in A6.

Kansas are an American progressive rock band from Topeka, Kansas.  This song is from their 1976 album 'Leftoverture.'  This song was suggested by Amanda in A6.

Enya is an Irish singer-songwriter and this song was especially written for The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).  This song was suggested by Amanda in A6.

Don McLean is an American singer songwriter and this song is from his excellent 1971 album 'American Pie.'  The song is about the death of 1950's singer songwriter  Buddy Holly in a plane crash in 1959.  This song was suggested by Amanda in A6.

The Byrds were an American rock band from LA, California and were one of the most influential band of the 1960's.  This song, originally written by Bob Dylan, is from their first album 'Mr Tambourine Man' (1965).
