Float On - Modest Mouse

Modest Mouse are an American indie band from Issaquah, Washington.  'Float On' is from their 2004 album 'Good News for People Who Love Bad News.'

King for a Day - Jamiroquai

Jamiroquai are an acid jazz band from the UK and are fronted by their lead singer, Jay Kay. 'King for a Day' is from the band's fouth album 'Synkronized' (1999) and was written about the band's ex bassist,  Stuart Zender, who left the band acromoniously before the completion of the album. 

Albion - Babyshambles

 

'Albion' is from their album 'Down in Albion' and is about life in England as seen through the eyes of its lead singer Pete Doherty.  This version is the single released in 2005. Below is the album version which has a minute noise before the song starts.

Percy's Song - Joan Baez

This is a scene from the documentary 'Dont Look Back'  which was a 1967 documentary film by D.A. Pennebaker about Bob Dylan's 1965 concert tour in the United Kingdom.  Joan Baez is singing Percy's Song, which was written by Dylan, while Dylan himself taps away on his typewriter.

Beetlebum and Song 2 - Blur

Blur are an English alternative rock band.  These two songs are both from the 1997 album 'Blur.'  These songs were suggested anonymously.  Thanks for the birthday wishes : ) and yes I do love these songs.  In my opinion Blur were probably one of the best bands from the 1990's who were never afraid to try something different.

Echo Beach - Martha and the Muffins

As it's nearly the summer holidays I thought this song might be appropriate.  Martha and the Muffins are a Canadian New Wave band.  'Echo Beach' was there biggest hit and was released from their first album 'Metro Music' (1980).  Mark Gane, the writer of the song, wrote it while working in his job checking wallpaper for printing faults.  He was so bored by it he started to think about times and places where he had been happy.  When he wrote the song he was thinking about Sunnyside Beach on Lake Ontario in Toronto in the summer.

Perfume Genius, whose real name is Mike Hadreas, is a solo indie artist from Seatle in America.  This song is from his debut album of the same name.

No More Heroes - The Stranglers

The Stranglers are an English punk rock group that formed in 1974.  'No More Heroes' is from their  album of the same name and released in 1977.  The song makes references to historical figures including:  William Shakespeare, Leon Trotsky, Sancho Panza and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. 

 

Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz

Gorillaz are a British virtual band of cartoon characters.  They are the creation of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett.  This song is from their second album 'Demon Days' released in 2005.

Never Marry a Railroad Man - Shocking Blue

Shocking Blue were a Dutch rock band from the Netherlands.  This song was released as a single in 1970 and can be found as a bonus track on an album they called 'Third Album' which was actually their fourth album. 

Brimful of Asha - Cornershop (Norman Cook remix)

Cornershop are a British indie rock band from Wolverhampton and Leicester.  'Brimful of Asha' is from their album 'When I Was Born for the 7th Time' (1997).   The song was remixed by Norman Cook  (Fat Boy Slim) who speeded the song up and gave it a dance beat.  The song is a tribute to Asha Bhosle who is an Indian film singer.  Below is the original.
